Fire at Edinburgh city centre Starbucks as hero crews race to the scene

Fire crews have rushed to the Royal Mile in the Old Town after a blaze broke out at a busy cafe.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service rushed to the scene on Tuesday, May 16, at around 2.30pm.

It is understood residents in the flats above and neighbouring businesses were evacuated as the fire fighters attended to the incident.

Four fire appliances, including one height appliance, attended to battle flames on the exterior wood paneling of the cafe.

Firefighters were still at the scene shortly after 3.15pm.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are still at the scene at 124 High Street, Edinburgh. There was a fire on the fascia boards of the commercial building. Four fire appliances were sent out, one height appliance and three fire appliances.
