Finding opportunity where others see problems, Joe Mazzulla sees an eager Boston Celtics roster back on the court

On day one of the Joe Mazzula interim head coach era for the Boston Celtics, Mazzulla liked what he saw from the team. “I saw an eagerness to get out on the basketball court,” he explained.”My goal is to make sure that guys are comfortable. As a staff, in the past, we’ve done a great job of doing that.”

“If I can collaborate with them on how we’re going to go about making them comfortable and then deciding together where we need to evolve on both ends of the floor, (that’s) what’s going to help us create an identity,” Mazzulla continued.

Asked about how hard it would be to start the season without big man Robert Williams III, the Celtics coach instead flipped the script in his response.

“I don’t think it’s difficult,” he suggested. “I think it’s an opportunity for someone else to grow and get better. And so that when he does come back, we have more depth.”
