EA Sports have introduced a number of new gameplay features for FIFA 23, including a brand-new Power Shot mechanic.
FIFA 23 is now available to play for players who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition or are subscribed to EA Play, with the official UK and worldwide release date being Friday, September 30, 2022. As players start to play the new game for the first time, people are starting to use and perfect the new shooting mechanic called Power Shots.
Labelled by EA as the "new risk versus reward shooting mechanic", Power Shots ultimately make the ball travel at a faster, more powerful speed towards the goal, but the aim is completely manual.
So, when attempting a power shot, your player could send an unstoppable shot into the back of the net, or your effort could be sent well wide of the target - a bit similar to timed shooting. There are already a bunch of different ways to score in FIFA 23 - finesse shots, chip shots and low-driven shots are just some of them. Now, if you could become an expert at Power Shots, it could make you unpredictable in front of goal.
To attempt a Power Shot in FIFA 23, you need to press L1 + R1 + Circle on PS or LB + RB + B on Xbox. These were the previous controls to attempt a low-driven shot on FIFA 22.
When you attempt a power shot, a longer-than-normal shot animation begins, giving you the chance to manually aim your shot. The more power, the more sensitive your aim will be.
Here are some tips for getting the best results when attempting a Power Shot:
- Make sure your player has space and no defenders are near the ball, otherwise there's a good chance a defender can steal the ball in the long build-up to the shot.
- Take your time. Make sure your player is balanced and has taken a few touches before attempting a shot.
- Use the right players. Players with the best shot power will be the most effective.
- Aim for the corners, and try to mainly use Power Shots from outside the box.
- Don't overdo it! As fun as it is to attempt these shots, it can become easy for the opposition to predict a Power Shot
Players will also notice that when attempting a power shot, the camera angle will slightly change for dramatic effect, slightly zooming in as you line up your shot. Not everyone will like this, and it can be turned off in Settings.
FIFA 23 will be released on Friday, September 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, Stadia, PS4, and Xbox One. Players who pre-order the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 23 or are subscribed to EA Play will be given early access to the game, allowing players access to the game today.
FIFA 23 is developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and will be available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PS4, and Xbox One on September 30. Early access for FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition begins on September 27, 2022.
