NEW DELHI: The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has sounded an alarm regarding the delayed issuance of visas to players participating in the esteemed Candidates event, urging Canada to expedite the processing of visa applications to ensure the timely arrival of contenders.
Scheduled to take place in Toronto from April 3-22, the Candidates event is one of the most prestigious tournaments in chess, determining challengers for the World champion titles in both the Open and Women's categories. Among the participants are five Indian players, including two women competitors.
