Fiat Punto hits police car in 'drug driving' chase

Two men have been arrested after a police chase through Whiston.

Merseyside Police confirmed that around 10.15am today officers tried to stop a blue Fiat Punto on Windy Arbour Road before it drove off from police. After a short chase, the car crashed into a police vehicle on Fox's Banks Lane.

Two men aged 34 and 29 from Liverpool were arrested on suspicion of drug driving. Both men were checked over by paramedics at the scene, then taken to a police station for questioning.

Road closures were in place on Fox Bank Lane and Lickers Lane while the car was removed from the area.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We have arrested two men following a road traffic collision this morning, Sunday 17 July.

"At around 10.15am officers attempted to stop a blue Fiat Punto on Windy Arbour Road which drove off from police. After a short pursuit the car was later involved in a collision on Fox Banks Lane with a police vehicle.

"Two men aged 34 and 29 from Liverpool were arrested on suspicion of drug driving and other offences. Both men were taken to a police station in Merseyside after their injuries were checked by paramedics at the scene.

"Road closures were in place on Fox Bank and Lickers Lane whilst the car was removed from the area."
