FEMA is setting up information centers at Eastern KY hardware stores to help flood victims

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency have been setting up help centers in hardware stores in eastern Kentucky. They are there to provide information for flood survivors to work on their homes to help deal with future disasters. This week they will be in Pike and Magoffin Counties.

Brianna Fenton is a spokesperson for FEMA. She said these representatives will be available to offer advice and tips.

“These FEMA mitigation specialists will be set up inside the stores with brochures, pamphlets and information available to help survivors build back stronger and safer. These free rebuilding and repair tips are geared toward do-it-yourselfers and general contractors.”

She said they will be able to offer advice on repairs and improvements, along with tips for homeowners.

“How to elevate certain appliances that may typically be in a basement such as moving the A/C unit or washer and dryer up from the basement, relocating electrical outlets higher off the floor. These FEMA mitigation specialists are on site and here to answer questions about rebuilding.”

Fenton said the specialists will be available through Saturday at the Rural King store in Pikeville and the Hometown True Value Hardware in Salyersville. They will be there from 8AM until 6PM through Friday. In Magoffin County, on Saturday, they will be there from 8AM until 4PM. In Pike County, on Saturday, they will be there from 8AM until 6PM.
