February half term 2023: The best things to do in and around Swansea during the school break

Looking for things to do in Swansea this February half term? There are workshops, festivals, fun days and shows for all the family to enjoy.

Croeso Festival - Swansea

A free two-day festival is coming to Swansea featuring big-name chefs and live music (Swansea Council)

A free two-day festival is coming to Swansea which will celebrate Welsh culture with top chefs and live music. The event will take place on Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25, running from 11am until 4pm each day. A great day out for food-and-drink- loving families, the event will feature a packed programme of cooking demonstrations at a dedicated marquee in Portland Street. You can read more here.

His Dark Materials exhibition and free family workshops

The whole family can enjoy a free exhibit and behind-the-scenes look at the hit BBC One drama His Dark Materials at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea this half term. The major exhibition gives visitors a behind-the-scene look at costumes, concept art, props, and visual effects from across three seasons. Throughout the half-term break there will be a series of free drop-in workshops including mural painting, fantasy painting and drawing, CGI, puppetry, and animation.

The exhibition is at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery until Sunday, April 23, and the art gallery is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10am and 5pm with last entry at 4.30pm. Booking is not required for the workshops but limited materials are available and age restrictions differ between workshops starting from age four and upwards. Magic show at Mumbles Pier

Magician Simon Sparkles will be performing a "jaw-dropping" live magic show at the pier this half term. Children's tickets are just £2 for the half-hour show and the first performance has already sold out. There are still tickets available for Wednesday, February 22, which you can book online.

Fun day in Gorseinon

Kids can meet their favourite TV and film characters like Paddington and Stitch at this fun-filled event in Gorseinon between 12pm and 3pm on Thursday, February 23. There will be three hours of unlimited rides and the event, which is suitable for children under 11, costs £12.50 per child. For more info call 07854460512.

Visit Plantasia and get a free gift for every child

Plantasia will celebrate its 33rd birthday (Plantasia)

Swansea's popular tropical zoo is celebrating its 33rd birthday from Saturday, February 18, until Sunday, February 26. There will be a free gift for every child, subject to availability, as well as a fun themed trail to follow through the jungle with the chance to win a prize. Families can enjoy scheduled plant and animal talks and birthday card crafts and there will be no additional charge on top of general admission prices. You can book tickets here. Toddlers go free while children and concessions tickets cost £6.50 and adult tickets cost £8.50.

Watch Up and get crafty with balloon workshops and St David's Day celebrations at the National Waterfront Museum

There will be lots on at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea this half term. You can enjoy a free showing of the heart-warming Pixar film Up on Sunday, February 19, at 2.30pm and there will be balloon arts and crafts every day from Monday, February 20, to Wednesday, February 22, between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. For a truly Welsh half term there are St David's day events taking place from Friday, February 24, to Sunday, February 26, including making a dragon headdress, learning the national anthem, and taking part in a St David's party.

Storytelling, mindfulness, and soft play yoga at Margam Park

There's loads to do at Margam Park this February half term. Activities include making a mask of your favourite animal on Monday, February 20, as well as taking part in soft play yoga and learning all about mindfulness art Tuesday, February 21. If you fancy some interactive storytelling you can enjoy Goldilocks and the Magic Porridge Pot on Thursday, February 23.

Watch wrestling in Clase, Swansea

Fancy something a bit different? Welsh Wrestling is bringing their live body slamming entertainment show to Swansea for a one-night extravaganza. Catch the top Welsh wrestling stars at Clase Social Club on Sunday, February 19, from 5pm. Tickets cost £10 and group tickets (for four people) cost £35.

Singleton Park, Swansea

Set just behind the duck pond, children can play in the park for free or they can feed the ducks. The wide expanse of Singleton Park also offers the botanical gardens which are open daily between 10am and 4.30pm. The whole family can enjoy Wales' premier plant collections, a wildflower garden, and three large glasshouses.

Visit a board game café for some family fun

Looking for something to do on a rainy day? Board game cafés Common Meeple and Social Dice in Swansea are great ways to pass the time. Social Dice in Wind Street boasts more than 400 board games.
