Violent criminal and drug gangs have caused misery for law abiding residents for decades.
Many of them took inspiration for their gang names from places they lived, the local haunts they visited and the drugs they sold. Nicknames included the Wavo 420, The Croxteth Crew and the East Side Boys.
One gang even tried to throw police off their scent by forming a name which took inspiration from Manchester. Intimidation and force were often used by the thugs to exert power and control over parts of the city region.
