There will be fears for one of Weatherfield's most-loved residents next week as Roy Cropper's health takes a scary turn. New Coronation Street spoilers have revealed that the cafe owner will reveal he's been struggling with chest pains and breathlessness before being supported at the hospital by Evelyn Plummer.
In upcoming scenes, viewers will see Evelyn persuade Roy to accompany her to her Salsa class. Glenda Shuttleworth will also realise she’s got her work cut out after landing a new job from her pal, Estelle, who arrived and told the Rovers Return barmaid that she could run Weatherfield franchise of Little Big Shotz.
With their salsa lesson underway, Roy clutches his chest and admitting that he doesn’t feel well, hurries out. Evelyn calls in the café and chides Roy for abandoning her mid-salsa lesson. Roy reiterates that he felt unwell but refuses to elaborate and Evelyn leaves in a huff.
Concerned, Roy later attends an appointment with Dr Gaddas and describes how he’s been suffering chest pains and breathlessness. Dr Gaddas tells him she’ll arrange for some tests. When Evelyn finds out she insists on accompanying him to the hospital.
It comes after in Monday night's trip to the cobbles (April 10), Roy faced a devastating sudden death. The character couldn't quite take in the news that a close friend had passed away, just hours after he met up with and spoke to them.
Newcomer Melvyn sadly lost his life after suffering a medical emergency, with his bereft sister leaving his beloved pet pooch Freddie in the care of Roy for the time being. Melvyn had visited Roy in the café and they planned to go on a day trip together, along with Freddie the dog.
But it wasn't long after the pair had set off to visit a bat roost that Roy returned with some worrying news. He revealed to his niece, Nina, and Shona that Melvyn had to be rushed to hospital. Cradling Freddie, Roy told the pair that Melvyn had suffered a funny turn and that doctors were running tests but that it wasn't looking good for his pal.
Then later, tragedy struck, as Roy had some "distressing news" via a phone call with Melvyn's sister. She informed Roy that Melvyn had died a short time ago, leaving him in complete shock and unable to process the sudden loss of his friend after being with him just hours earlier.
He told Nina: "It's very hard to comprehend. I was only talking to him a matter of hours ago. He seemed fine as far as one can tell of such things," while still caring for Melvyn's beloved pet. But this isn't the last Corrie viewers will see of Freddie as later this week, Roy will find out he has inherited the soap's new adorable dog.
