Fear near Top Valley road labelled 'a racetrack' as police crack down on speeding drivers

A community living near a road "used as a racetrack" by drivers have spoken out over their fears. People in Rise Park, Nottingham, have told of their concerns and said that "nothing can stop speeding" on Brownlow Drive.

The street is popular to shoppers and residents who cross the road to go to the stores on the Bestwood Park Drive West. However, they said they "have to be very careful".

In response to their concerns, officers went out to Sherwood and Top Valley in an effort to reduce speeding in the area. Out of the five roads that were targeted, Brownlow came up as the most problematic street with seven drivers stopped and two tickets issued. Other streets targeted by officers were Queens Bower Road, Beckhampton Road, Haydn Road and Perry Road.

Anthony Wilson, a retired resident in the area, 73, added: "It is like a racetrack around here all the time. You have to very careful when you cross at one of the crossings. The traffic here is just challenging."

He described the street as "dangerous". He added: "There is nothing they can do to stop speeding on this street. It is just very dangerous. I used to drive but I stopped because of the traffic and everything - just too many cars."

Retired Kinaeth O'garro, who lives in the area, has also echoed Mr Wilson's frustration, adding: "I would say it is the most dangerous road around here. I am not personally scared to cross the road, but I am just concerned about the elderly."

The 69-year-old added: "They cannot run or walk quicker when a driver speeds on the road. And it is mostly the young people who do that."

Everod Greenway, also a resident in the area, 50, agreed and said: "I do not think the speed bumps would change anything. It has always been like this. People need to be extremely careful because some drivers just do not care."
