A false positive laboratory result briefly created the appearance that federal investigators had identified a new contaminated lot of Taylor Farms lettuce linked to a sprawling cyclospora outbreak. Then the U.S. Food and Drug Administration walked it back.
But the agency is not walking back the investigation. As of July 21, 2026, the FDA has maintained that its traceback data and epidemiological evidence continue to implicate shredded iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico and supplied by Taylor Fresh Foods and Taylor Farms de Mexico. The voluntary recall of that product remains in effect. The current confirmed case count stands at a minimum of 1,644 people sickened across multiple states, with federal officials acknowledging the true number is likely significantly higher.
