Federal investigators have raised the case count in one of the summer's unresolved Cyclospora investigations from 115 to 172, an increase of 57 illnesses in a single update. The change appeared in the FDA's outbreak table on August 12 for the investigation logged as reference 1392, and the product remains listed as not yet identified.
The wording is the notable part. The FDA called the figure adjusted rather than increased, explaining that the incident "now includes additional illnesses based on similarities in reported exposures."
