In a tragic incident, three U.S. Army soldiers were killed and more than 30 others injured in a drone attack on a U.S. outpost located in northeast Jordan. This military base sits on the border with Syria, and the attack has raised serious concerns about the escalating threat posed by Iran-backed militia groups in the region.
The attack marks a significant escalation in both size and severity compared to previous incidents. While there have been numerous drone attacks on U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria since October, none had resulted in the deaths of American service members until now. Previously, the injuries sustained in such attacks were relatively minor, with traumatic brain injury being the most severe reported.
