Former Rangers and Auxerre goalkeeper Lionel Charbonnier has declared Fashion Sakala is "coming" to the Ligue 1 side.
The 25-year-old returned a tally of nine goals in 13 league starts for Rangers since his move last summer from Oostende, and ended the campaign with an appearance in the Europa League final and a Scottish Cup winners medal to complete a respectable campaign. However, Gio van Bronckhorst has been reshaping his squad with the likes of Antonio Colak, Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence and Malik Tillman adding alternative attacking options for the Dutchman next term.
The business at Ibrox has sparked fresh speculation that the Zambia international could be on his way to Auxerre, with reports in France earlier in the summer claiming that Rangers had knocked back an approach from the Ligue 1 newcomers. Jean-Marc Furlan is reportedly a big fan of Sakala and would be keen to secure a loan deal to bolster their squad after promotion last term.
Sakala's pre-season has been hampered by injury so far but is expected to feature against West Ham on Tuesday after a knock he picked up in training. However, Charbonnier took to Twitter to tease "Sakala is coming to AJ Auxerre" with a thinking emoji.
He would then attempt to temper the statement in a follow up post. The former World Cup winner, who spent over a decade at Auxerre, told concerned Rangers fans: "Just heard about this. Nothing done, just wait and see."
