Fantasy football Week 2 studs, duds and sleepers: Don’t sleep on Antonio Gibson

When it comes to competition, one of the best ways to get an edge on the opposition is through prior preparation. In fantasy football, that way of thinking certainly applies. Here at Bet For The Win, we’re doing the preparation for you.

Week 1’s action was all over the place. Some superstars failed to realize this the regular season had started, while some forgotten-about-players came out of nowhere to have big season-opening performances. Now, as we gear up for Week 2, we’ll have a better idea of what to expect.

No more surprises! Here are the studs, duds and sleepers to watch for ahead of Week 2.

Studs

(Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports)

QB Russell Wilson – Denver Broncos

So, the return to Seattle didn’t go as planned. All things considered, Wilson played a solid game in Game 1 of his Denver tenure while having to deal with the obvious emotion and abnormalities of the Week 1 contest. He gets to face a Texans team that gave up the second-most passing yards last week. Let’s ride with Russ in Week 2.

RB Saquon Barkley – New York Giants

The former No. 2 overall pick looked like the best version of himself against the Titans. He’ll have another great game when he runs rampant against a Panthers defense that got hit for 217 rushing yards a week ago.

WR Davante Adams – Las Vegas Raiders

No matter the jersey, Davante is still Davante. That’s great news for his fantasy managers, but not so great for the Arizona Cardinals who gave up 360 passing yards and five TD passes.

TE Tyler Higbee – Los Angeles Rams

Your Week 1 leader in targets at the tight end position? Tyler Higbee (11). Expect the volume to be there again and for it to turn into better production.

Duds

(Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports)

QB Trey Lance – San Francisco 49ers

The bad weather and field conditions may have had something to do with Lance’s underwhelming Week 1 showing. If Seattle’s defense is as locked in as it was against Denver, Trey might have another disappointing week.

RB Ezekiel Elliott – Dallas Cowboys

No Dak for the Cowboys AND they play against a good Bengals defense. Game script for this one might not include much Zeke if Dallas is playing from behind, which is a possibility.

WR Amari Cooper – Cleveland Browns

Speaking of the Cowboys, I bet they wish Amari Cooper were still around. And with Jacoby Brissett running the show in Cleveland, Cooper might wish the same. He saw just six targets and caught three passes. It’s hard to trust he’ll get a ton of clean opportunities for the time being.

TE Hunter Henry – New England Patriots

The offense looked extremely mediocre to begin the season. Apparently, Mac Jones is dealing with some sort of back injury as well. All which is bad news for Hunter Henry ahead of Week 2.

Sleepers

QB Tua Tagovailoa – Miami Dolphins

Tua playing well with weapons around him? Go figure. Week 2 against the Ravens has a chance to be a shootout and if that’s the case, there’s upside with Tua.

RB Antonio Gibson – Washington Commanders

Surely not in the way he may have wanted, but Antonio Gibson got his RB1 spot back. And you know what? He looked good in Week 1 as a runner and a pass-catcher. He has an opportunity to put up numbers against the Lions.

WR Tyler Boyd – Cincinnati Bengals

Is Tee Higgins going to clear concussion protocols? That is the big question. If not, Boyd is the clear No. 2 after Ja’Marr Chase.

TE O.J. Howard – Houston Texans

Don’t expect O.J. to score two touchdowns every week. But now that we know he’ll be included in the offense, he could be an interesting play each week. Big body? Red zone threat? Hey, there’s an upside.
