Rihanna performed an explosive Superbowl halftime show after a four-year hiatus.

The pop sensation delighted fans, singing and dancing a number of her hits at the State Farm Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

The halftime show, during the Philadelphia Eagles against the Kansas City Chiefs game, provided more than just a racy performance as the superstar announced she is expecting a second child with ASAP Rocky.

Rihanna performed her hits including Where Have You Been, We Found Love and Diamonds dressed in a bold red suit and perched on a floating stage above the field.

The singer admitted she had taken inspiration from Beyoncé for her Super Bowl performance saying on Nate Burleson’s NFL podcast the singer “is a beast and a whole other level”.

Rihanna’s pregnancy announcement

The show opened up with a close-up of Rihanna’s face with her chin down, staring intently into the camera and looking as if she was ready for battle.

It was during her first performance the Barbadian singer swept her hand over her belly, seemingly announcing to the world that she is pregnant, which was later confirmed by a representative for the singer.

The news set Twitter alight as fans flocked to social media, sharing their views of the night and her surprise pregnancy announcement.

Fans reaction to Rihanna’s Superbowl performance

Reaction to the pop sensation’s performance was a mixed bag with some loving it, others remaining nonchalant and a few hailing the singer’s bravery.

Speaking of her performance, Twitter user @MyMvvd wrote: “Ah this is literally a masterpiece” with @carlanicol9 adding, “It was cool. Squid game vibes.”

Others were less enthused with user @blessed1193 writing: “That half time show was awful boo…”

During Rihanna’s closing performance of Diamonds, fireworks lit up the sky around the stadium while the singer was hoisted up high as if almost flying.

User @LaurenMDeMaio said: “The close up on her face during ‘like diamonds in the sky’ and then the final pull back with fireworks gave me chills!”

“Production value is so over the top outstanding. Well done to all,” added user @DHsRantings.

But some fans were less than impressed. User @FastMarybeth simply writing “Score zero” and user @BabsJDancer chiming in saying: “Yes, this was the one good shot. I have been to 7 Super Bowls; this was a boring performance. Love her and her music, but this was B-O-R-I-N-G!”

Other fans were concerned with Rihanna’s safety with @NASJones333 writing: “It made me very anxious. I was concerned she was going to fall” and @toriep_byb adding: “My husband, ‘no way I’m letting my pregnant wife be lifted up in the air like that!’”

User @g33kt4str0ph3 hailed Rihanna’s performance and bravery for performing while pregnant, writing: “I mean, can you even imagine trying to sing while you’re over 100 feet off the ground?! My everything would be shaking too hard to sing anything. And she did it while growing a new human! I say GET IT QUEEN!!! I could never do it.”
