The Chicago Bears finally got to make their first selections of the 2022 NFL draft. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news for quarterback Justin Fields.
New Bears general manager Ryan Poles doubled down on defense with both second-round picks. Chicago selected Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon at 39th overall and Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker at 48th overall.
While the Gordon pick wasn’t cause for alarm — especially considering it addressed a huge need in the secondary — but the Brisker selection caused panic among Bears fans.
Through the second round, Chicago has yet to address offense and get help for Fields in the form of a playmaker at receiver or protection on the offensive line.
And it’s not as if the Bears did much in free agency to help Fields. Their top additions include center Lucas Patrick and wide receivers Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown.
Naturally, fans are angry at Poles and concerned about Fields’ well-being heading into 2022. The Bears finally got a hopeful franchise quarterback and the new regime hasn’t done much to help him heading into a critical Year 2.
Here’s what NFL fans are saying about Fields after Chicago doubled down on defense with their first draft picks.
