Famous Liverpool hotel fails to sell after £12.5m asking price not met

The sale of one of Liverpool's best-known hotels has been shelved after the asking price of £12.5m failed to be met.

30 James Street was put on the market in October 2021 but a deal for the 63-bedroom hotel has not been agreed.

Savills had been marketing the property having appointed Legacy Hotels, which is known for running the Pullman Hotel on the waterfront, to operate the business in July 2020 .

Once known as the 'home of the Titanic', having been the headquarters of the White Star Shipping Line, the grade II-listed hotel includes the Carpathia Champagne Bar and Restaurant on the seventh floor.

It also has an outdoor terrace, grand hall, conference and banqueting facilities, as well as a spa with three treatment rooms and an indoor swimming pool.

The hotel was launched by Signature Living in 2014 before it fell into administration as part of wider problems for the developer group.

The building was designed by celebrated Victorian architect Norman Shaw, who also designed New Scotland Yard in London, and was completed in 1896.

The hotel had previously been put on the market in 2019 with an asking price of more than £16m.

Savills has been contacted for comment.
