A much-loved family pet has died after being savagely attacked by another dog while out for his evening walk.
On Wednesday evening, August 10, Anthony Wright was out walking his three-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, Wilson, around Espin Street in Walton. But when another, larger dog, came "bolting out of nowhere" from Goodison Road, the family were horrified as to what happened next.
Anthony's wife Iwona Wright told the ECHO that the other dog, which she believes to have escaped from its garden, grabbed Wilson's body and was "dragging him around" and "ragging him like a toy". She added: "He was shredded to bits, he had a big chunk taken out of his body.

"My husband was screaming and had to grab our dog away. The dog just came running at him with no collar or lead. The owners came out, shouting their dog. They weren't sympathetic at all."
Wilson was rushed for an emergency operation at the PDSA in Huyton, but the next day, the family received the "worst news" when they were told that Wilson, who was due to turn four this month, sadly died of his injuries. She is now urging others to "be aware" and for dog owners to keep their dogs on a lead.
Iwona said: "What if this was a child? You should keep an eye on any dog or keep them on the lead. We got the call on Thursday that there was nothing they could do, his injuries were too severe.
"We are devastated, he was like family. People need to be careful. They have a short life span anyway but he has been killed.
"My daughter is devastated, we all are. My husband has flashbacks, he was there. So do I, he came running into our room with the dog, there was blood everywhere, screaming he'd been attacked. I just knew there was a very small chance of survival."
In the hopes of helping the family, staff at The Furdressers, who have been grooming Wilson since he was a puppy, immediately launched a fundraiser for the "happiest dog" who was attacked just one street away from his own home.
But now, due to Wilson sadly not making it, any funds raised will go to Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary. The fundraiser can be found here.
