Shoppers in New York and New Jersey should check their refrigerators for a raw-milk cheddar. Family Farmstead Dairy of Worcester, New York, announced a recall of its Raw Mild Cheddar Cheese on Oct. 15 because of possible contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7, according to the recall notice posted by the FDA.
A Maryland laboratory isolated two strains of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, known as STEC, in two samples of the cheese. The company said no illnesses had been reported.
