Fallout Season 2—everything we know about our trip to New Vegas

Ella Purnell as Lucy.

In this brave new era of game-to-TV adaptations, I was thrilled to learn that Amazon's Fallout TV show was pretty great. The first season tossed in all sorts of touchstones from the games: from stimpacks to power armor, and plenty of Fallout's weirdo humor.

It was also a hit, raking in 65 million views in its first 16 days. One of our own, Jody Macgregor, called it the best Fallout since New Vegas in his Fallout Season 1 review. As a result of such high praise, it's not surprising that a second season was quickly announced.

With the premiere of Fallout Season 2 right around the corner now, we've learned even more about what we're going to see thanks to lots of trailers, images, and interviews. So we hope you like New Vegas, because the show's going to be spending quite a bit of time there, both in pre-war flashbacks and after the bombs fell.

What is the Fallout Season 2 release date?

Fallout Season 2 is releasing on December 17, 2025. Unlike Season 1, in which all episodes were available at once on Prime Video, Season 2 will be released one episode per week until February 4, 2026, with episodes dropping at 12am PT.

Amazon didn't even want to wait to see how Season 2 performed: Fallout Season 3 has already been greenlit.

Fallout Season 2 trailers

Official Trailer

The second trailer for Fallout season 2 dropped on 13th November, just a month before the season's premier in December. There's still not a lot of Purnell's Lucy on show here, as Goggins' The Ghoul takes most of the spotlight again.

What we can glean from this trailer plot-wise is that The Ghoul and Lucy are teaming up to track down Lucy's father, Maximus and Thaddeus are still together, Norm MacLean is enjoying vault life so much that he's leaving, some sort of civil war is brewing, and Macaulay Culkin is seen doing a murder in Caesar's Legion gear.

Teaser trailer

The first teaser trailer for Fallout Season 2 was released at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19. It gives us a nice look at our main character trio, with The Ghoul and Lucy heading to Vegas to chase down Lucy's dad, Hank, while Aaron Moten goes to war alongside the Brotherhood of Steel.

We also get to meet Mr. House, see a famous faction from Fallout: New Vegas, and catch a glimpse at one of Fallout's biggest monstrosities.

Fallout Season 2 cast

We know that the three main characters will be returning with Purnell, Goggins, and Moten in their roles. Kyle MacLachlan will also return as Hank MacLean, Moises Arias is back as Norm MacLean, and Frances Turner will reprise her role as Barb Howard, all confirmed by their appearance in these Fallout Season 2 photos and the Gamescom teaser trailer.

We also got a surprise in the first Fallout Season 2 teaser: Justin Theroux is playing Mr. House, the ruler of New Vegas and owner of the Lucky 38 Casino. Mr. House had a brief appearance in Season 1, but was played by Rafi Silver.

  • Ella Purnell - Lucy MacLean
  • Walton Goggins - The Ghoul / Cooper Howard
  • Aaron Moten - Knight Maximus
  • Kyle MacLachlan – Hank MacLean
  • Moisés Arias – Norm MacLean
  • Frances Turner - Barb Howard
  • Justin Theroux - Mr. House
  • Sarita Choudhury - Moldaver
  • Leslie Uggams - Overseer Betty
  • John Daly - Snake Oil Salesman
  • Macaulay Culkin - unannounced
  • Kumail Nanjiani - A high-ranking official within the Brotherhood of Steel

One wild card so far is Macaulay Culkin, who's been confirmed cast but without a character name announced. According to Deadline's report, he'll be playing "a crazy genius-type character." that doesn't tell us a whole lot but we did see him wearing a Caesar's Legion outfit in the second trailer.

What we know about Fallout's season 2 plot

Despite the trailers, not a lot of plot details about Fallout Season 2 have been revealed. Prime Video says only this: "The new season will pick up in the aftermath of Season One’s epic finale and take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas."

It's also known that season 2 is set 15 years after the events of the New Vegas game.

The trailer and episode images show iconic New Vegas locations like the Lucky 38 Casino and the Dino Dee-lite Motel, plus we get a glimpse of Caesar's Legion, one of the major factions from Fallout: New Vegas. And at long last, we get to see a Deathclaw. Finally!

We're also going to learn more about the leadup to the war and Cooper Howard's life before becoming The Ghoul. In the teaser we see him meeting Mr. House in Vegas, though he (Cooper) looks considerably older than he did in Season 1. Cooper was convinced his daughter was still alive, even a couple hundred years after the war, so it looks like we'll learn more about her situation, too.

The second trailer revealed a little more, but not much. A civil war is being teased, Norm MacLean and a few other vault dwellers are seen outside the vault, and Macaulay Culkin is seen dressed in a Ceaser's Legion fit while engaging in a bit of stabbing.

Purnell also offered some teasing words in an Empire interview about Lucy and The Ghoul: "At times, it’s like [they] are on this buddy road trip," and "Is the Ghoul going to become good? Is Lucy going to become bad? Or are they going to be somewhere in the middle?"

And here's some small tidbits teased during interviews with the Falllout actors:

  • There is no canon ending for the New Vegas game. Instead, all of the factions are convinced they won. Yes, this sounds kinda lame, but also, a pretty Fallout-like way of skirting around that problem?
  • Hank MacLean will be suiting up in the iconic T-60 power armor again
  • The Deathclaw isn't CGI, it's manned by puppeteers
  • Even if one of your favorite things from the game doesn't make it into season 2, producer James Altman says that they're holding things back for the future

To "celebrate" Fallout Day, the in-universe date of when the bombs dropped, four character posters were released on October 23, 2025. Lucy, Maximus, The Ghoul, and Dogmeat take center stage, surrounded by various people. Or, in Dogmeat's case, surrounded by radscorpions.
