Falcons work out trio of linebackers, including familiar face

The Atlanta Falcons could be without linebacker Nate Landman in Week 2 and are looking at some potential reinforcements. Landman missed his second straight practice on Friday due to calf and quadriceps injuries, putting his status up in the air.

According to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo, the Falcons worked out three linebackers, including Rashaan Evans, who started 17 games and led the team in tackles in 2022. Former Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander and veteran Josh Woods also worked out for Atlanta on Friday, per Garafolo.

Evans, 28, was drafted in the first round by the Tennessee Titans in 2018. The former Alabama standout has 68 career starts but played in just nine games (one start) for the Dallas Cowboys under former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn last season. Evans has 485 career tackles (286 solo), five sacks and two interceptions since 2018.

Alexander, 30, was once a young star for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former fourth-round pick spent his first four seasons with the Buccaneers, earning a Pro Bowl berth in 2017. Alexander has played for several teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The former LSU linebacker has been a tackling machine for the last decade, racking up 631 tackles (445 solo), 13.5 sacks and nine interceptions. While both Alexander and Evans have the experience advantage over Woods, the 28-year-old started more games than the other two combined last season.

Woods, a former undrafted free agent out of Maryland, appeared in 11 games (seven starts) for the Cardinals in 2023.
