The Carolina Panthers would love to retain defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero heading into the 2024 season. But it probably won’t be easy.
A threat has been detected, as the Atlanta Falcons—per Joe Person of The Athletic— have requested permission to interview Evero for their vacant head-coaching position. Carolina’s NFC South rivals are fresh off dismissing their now-former head coach Arthur Smith, who led the team to three 7-10 records in each of his three seasons at the helm.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, they don’t have the power to put the kibosh on this potential interview.
Yesterday, ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler reported that the Panthers blocked the Jacksonville Jaguars from speaking with Evero. But unlike the Falcons, who are interested in the 43-year-old as a head coach, the Jaguars were seeking a talk in regards to their defensive coordinator spot.
Since that would’ve been a parallel move for Evero, the Panthers exercised their right to refuse permission.
Evero, additionally, is expected to interview with Carolina for their head-coaching job.
