The Atlanta Falcons left Friday’s game against the Miami Dolphins with a few significant injuries. Both outside linebacker Bralen Trice and cornerback Harrison Hand were added to the injured reserve list on Sunday, but there was no update on safety DeMarcco Hellams.
The former seventh-round pick was carted off the field early in the first quarter with an apparent leg injury, so fans were confused when he wasn’t placed on injured reserve. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris finally addressed Hellams’ status during a Monday morning press conference.
“DeMarcco got the injury obviously,” said Morris. “He’s going to miss some significant time, but it’s an ankle so we’ll see what that means.”
This is a positive development considering that most assumed Hellams was likely out for the year. Hellams was expected to serve as the team’s third safety this season. If he’s out for an extended period, expect Lukas Denis and Micah Abernathy to help fill in.
The Falcons signed running back Spencer Brown and wide receiver Jakeem Grant on Sunday. Check out the team’s updated 90-man training camp roster HERE and watch Morris’ full press conference below:
