Multiple bags of counterfeit cigarettes have been seized from a shop in Retford town centre. They were confiscated March 22 as part of a Multi-Agency Operation between Trading Standards and East Bassetlaw Safer Neighbourhood Team
East Bassetlaw Police: Retford, Harworth and surrounding villages Facebook page posted about the incident yesterday. The post reads "Counterfeit cigarettes and hand rolling tobacco were seized from a shop in Retford town centre. The Operation was carried out on the back of intelligence received from the general public. We will continue to work in partnership with other agencies to make Retford a safer place.
"Counterfeit cigarettes can contain a higher level of cancer-causing toxins than standard cigarettes, as well as a higher level of contaminants such as lead and arsenic. These cigarettes do not self-extinguish so can be a bigger fire risk. Please think twice about buying them - you could be putting your home or family at risk by smoking them."
