Factory printing fake NCERT books busted in UP’s Bareilly, over 16k books recovered

BAREILLY: The officials of NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) from Delhi along with local police busted a fake book printing unit in Bhojipura area of Bareilly on Friday night and seized around 16,580 textbooks.

According to NCERT officials, several people were found working in the printing press. However, due to “lack of support by cops”, the officials couldn’t get information about the owner of the factory. Therefore, an FIR was registered against unidentified persons at Bhojipura police station on Saturday. The FIR in this case was registered under section 420 (cheating) of IPC along with sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act, 1957.

A member of NCERT team told TOI, "We received an intel regarding an illegal unit printing fake books. During the raid a few workers threatened my driver of dire consequences but police didn’t take any action against them. Moreover, the local police didn’t provide us the name of the owner of the factory where the printing press was set up without permission. So, we had to register an FIR against unidentified persons and leave it up to Bareilly police to conduct further investigation in the matter."

Over 50 employees were working in the printing unit when the raid was conducted, however, no one was detained by police for questioning, the official said.

When queried, SHO Tejpal Singh said, “We didn’t arrest anyone because the NCERT officials said that they were only labourers. The responsibility of finding the name of the owner of the plot where the printing press was running lies with the complainant. The investigation of this case has been handed over to sub-inspector Ranveer Singh and he will find the culprit. We will take action accordingly.”

SSP Bareilly Prabhakar Chaudhary, “We will look into this case and ensure necessary action against the accused.”
