Facing destruction: Marayoor panchayat to protect dolmens

IDUKKI: Marayoor in Idukki is known for a large number of prehistoric remains, including dolmens. But now, the dolmens and prehistoric remains face destruction and degeneration following illegal activities by tourists.

As per the record of the archaeological department, more than 1,000 dolmens are situated in the Karayoor, Kanthalloor, and Marayoor villages. The dolmens of Marayoor hills are more than 2,500 to 3,500 years old.
