Faces of 10 criminals jailed in Nottinghamshire in April

This month in court saw 20-year-old Malick Jones, 20, locked up after he stabbed a man, leaving him fighting for his life in hospital. Jones pulled a knife from the back of his trousers, lunged toward the 22-year-old victim and stabbed him in the chest.

The attack happened in the outdoor seating area of a fast-food restaurant in Milton Street in Nottingham city centre shortly after 5pm on October 8, 2020. Jones, of Henning Gardens, Top Valley, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on April 22. He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, robbery and threatening a person with a bladed article. Jones was sentenced to nine years in a young offenders' institution and was also handed an indefinite restraining order. Read the full story here

And Julian Mead, 38, went to prison after he assaulted a woman after an argument in her home in the Whitemoor area of Nottingham, on October 18, 2021.

Other cases before the courts:

Daniel Barrass, 32, of no fixed address, rammed two police cars and drove the wrong way on a dual carriageway to evade capture. Barrass was chased by police up the A1 on Saturday, November 27, after the camper van he stole from West Yorkshire was linked to the attempted theft of a campervan in Lincolnshire.

Barrass appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, April 27, having pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, attempted theft of motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, and dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison and also disqualified from driving for four years 10 months. Read the full story here

'Dangerous' prisoner launched revenge attack with razors melted into cutlery

Prisoner Mccauley Cook used a weapon crafted from a piece of plastic cutlery to launch a revenge attack on an inmate he accused of being "a snitch". Cook, 25, of no fixed address, also attacked a prison officer in HMP Lowdham Grange.

Cook then pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to the prisoner, assault, causing bodily harm to the officer, and having a blade in prison. He was sentenced to six years and eight months for the wounding with intent offence, with an extended licence for four years on release. Two-year concurrent sentences were passed on the other charges. The sentence will not start until February 2026, as it was imposed consecutively to the time he is currently serving. Daughter stabbed her dad

Ann Dixon , 49, of Moorbridge Lane, Stapleford, stabbed her father. Brave Ray, who was 77 when he died, was able to call an ambulance and told the operator he needed help and, "my daughter has stabbed me". Ray tragically died, and Dixon, who has paranoid schizophrenia and believes "the devil" instructed her to kill him, went on to plead guilty to his manslaughter by diminished responsibility on Wednesday, April 20.

She was sentenced by Judge Gregory Dickinson QC, the Recorder of Nottingham, on Thursday, April 21, to a hospital order without limit of time. Read the full story here.

Offender 'went off the rails'

Defendant Kyle Bradley admitted a series of offending over the course of two years after he went off the rails. The 24-year-old, of Beauvale Crescent, Hucknall, caused serious injury by dangerous driving to one woman.

The court had heard a Volkswagen Golf, driven by Bradley and speeding at 70mph and 90mph, had hit the Ford Focus she was a passenger in on October 30, 2019, in Watnall Road, Hucknall. The driver of the Ford had described how his car "exploded into pieces".

Bradley was additionally sentenced for the theft of a bicycle from a 17-year-old on September 21, 2018, in Broomhill Road, Bulwell, and for dangerous driving and drug driving on February 15, 2020, in Hucknall, as well as for having no insurance or licence and for possessing four wraps of cocaine.

Bradley also admitted supplying cannabis and possessing cannabis with intent to supply after nearly 57 grams of cannabis were found in street deals in May 2020, and two mobile phones held evidence of cannabis supply. His total prison sentence was three-and-a-half years, and a driving ban. Read the full story here.

Thug Andy Hurns jailed for life after he left his victim horrifically facially disfigured

Andy Hurns' minimum term was set at 21 years after he was handed the life sentence. The 32-year-old, of Edgbaston Drive in Retford, had forced his way through the victim's front door, demanding cash and jewellery from her, and when she resisted, he beat her within an inch of her life, only stopping when police arrived.

He was found guilty by a jury of attempted murder at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, February 18, and sentenced this month. Read the full story here

Man stabbed 7 seven times in Nottinghamshire bus stop attack

John Lambert, 41, and Raella Parkinson, 42, attacked their victim at a bus stop near Jubilee Way South, Mansfield on July 28, after he asked them for money that he believed he was owed. (Nottinghamshire Police)

John Lambert and mother-of-four Raella Parkinson went to prison over a terrible knife attack at a bus stop near Tesco, Mansfield, on July 8 last year. Both defendants, of Mappleton Drive, Mansfield, were sentenced on Tuesday, April 12, after they were found guilty of wounding with intent after trial at Nottingham Crown Court on November 26 last year. Lambert, 41, received eight years in custody and an extended licence period of four years. Parkinson, 43, was jailed for five-and-half years. Read the full story here

Disqualified drink driver slurred his words after being pulled over by police

Anthony Smedley was spotted by officers in an unmarked police car as he drove away from a filling station without paying in the early hours of Monday, April 4. Smedley, aged 30, was pulled over a short time later in Willowbridge Lane, Sutton-in-Ashfield, and found to be slurring his words. He then failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.

Appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 5, he pleaded guilty to making off without payment, drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance. He was jailed for 20 weeks. Read the full story here
