Fabio Vieira's first words on imminent Arsenal transfer as 'important' promise made to fans

Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira has promised Arsenal fans he will work hard once a deal to bring him to the Emirates is completed in the coming days.

The 22-year-old has been targeted by the Gunners ahead of the 2022/23 season and a deal is now reportedly a question of when rather than if now. Arsenal are expected to pay around £30 million for Vieira has Mikel Arteta prepares for the return of European football by bolstering his side.

Vieira is capable of playing in midfield but also off either wing, making him an appealing fit for Arsenal's 4-3-3 system. The Portuguese impressed as Porto completed a league and cup double but it now appears he will be plying his trade in the Premier League from next season.

Now, the player himself has spoken out over the reports, all but confirming the deal is done. In an interview with the Mirror, Vieira said: “I was always happy at Porto but this chance is important for any professional."

He added that he is determined to adapt to the rigours of the English top flight: “Playing in the Premier League won’t be easy and I promise only to work, work, work. My agent worked on the deal between the two clubs and I accepted the deal because it was important for all parties. I have always watched the Premier League on TV."

Last season saw the versatile midfielder find the back of the net seven times and provide 14 assists in the Portuguese top-flight. While he is yet to make his debut for the national team, he has regularly captained the under-21s, drawing comparisons to Manchester City's Bernardo Silva in the process.
