FA make decision on Bruno Fernandes incident during Liverpool vs Man United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has seemingly escaped punishment from the Football Association (FA) after an incident during the latter stages of their defeat to Liverpool.

That is according to the Mirror, who has reported that the Portugal international will not face retrospective action from the governing body after appearing to make contact with the back of assistant referee Adam Nunn.

The moment came in the latter stages of their 7-0 defeat after a firm, but fair, challenge from Trent Alexander-Arnold in front of the Kop before the pair exchanged words with the touchline official stepping in a bid to cool the tension. However, Fernandes was having none of it after the Liverpool defender passed the ball back, pushing aside Mr Nunn.

Mirror Football has reported that the match officials did not take any formal action in regard to the incident, adding that the FA confirmed nothing further will happen given that referee Andy Madley spotted the moment in question - but along with the team of officials, opted not to include it in the post-match report.

Recently, the FA wrote to clubs to remind them of their responsibilities in relation to the behaviour of their players and staff. Action will only be taken if it is deemed that the match officials missed a clear sending-off.

Speaking on talkSPORT earlier today, pundit Simon Jordan called for Fernandes to be punished. He said: "The captain of arguably the biggest club in English football, not in achievement terms but in terms of reputation and repute, should not go unpunished for this.

"It shouldn’t have gone unpunished at the time and with the benefit of retrospective outcomes we have in this country, there should be consequences because it is not right. You do not raise your hands, in any shape or form, to an official.”

Arsenal legend Martin Keown disagreed, as he said: "I think it was disrespectful and something we need to keep an eye on, I don’t think it’s one of those where he should be booked or sent off. He just brushed him out of his road.”

The Reds were rampant in the second half at Anfield yesterday, inflicting the Red Devils' worst defeat in Premier League history as the front three of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez netted a brace each with Roberto Firmino adding to the rout late on.

Jurgen Klopp's side were ruthless against their rivals and as the scoreline increased, so did the visitors' frustration with Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and others involved in flashpoints.
