Explore the sounds of Thai rainforests

Renowned audio artist Francisco Lopez will give a world premiere of his new composition, Himavanta, in four sessions over two days this Friday and Saturday, at 7pm and 8.30pm. The venue is Bangkok 1899, a cultural and civic hub located on Nakhon Sawan Road, tambon Wat Sommanat.

Presented by Creative Migration, an international arts organisation based in Los Angeles and Bangkok, this is the second section of a two-part residency by the experimental musician, who has developed an astonishing sonic universe for 40 years.

Himavanta is original environmental sound matter recorded by Lopez during last year's monsoon season at multiple locations throughout Thailand's rainforests -- Khao Yai National Park, Nam Nao, Tham Khao Luk Chang, Kwae River, Hellfire Pass, Kaeng Krachan National Park, Baan Maka and Khao Sok National Park.

With the support of the Embassy of Spain, the performances will be created exclusively with recordings from the first part of the artist's one-month residency from last September and October at Bangkok 1899.

Lopez utilises his philosophy of exploring the sensorial and ontological reality with blind, profound and transcendental listening, reinterpreting what he calls an "anthropoEXcentric" understanding of wilderness sounds and sonic creatures.

His new performances will creatively work with new original materials and live sound spatialisation to expand our reality and give rise to a new and unique immersive experience of Thailand's rainforests.

For those who are interested in delving deeper into sound art and experimental music, Lopez will be conducting a free masterclass at Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, Arun Amarin Road, on Sunday from 5-8pm. A limited number of seats are available and reservations should be made via http://forms.gle/z5t6mKpPs4JWfXMq8 by today.

Exclusively on June 26 at 6pm, Lopez will collaborate with chef Santiago Munoz from Lima, Peru, for a unique experience that incorporates all your senses. The chef will prepare a seven-course Peruvian dinner accompanied by curated sounds from Lopez. The venue is Na Cafe, located on the same premises as Bangkok 1899. To book a seat, call 080-829-5084.

Tickets for the performances cost 500 baht and can be purchased from eventbrite.com.
