The warmer months are approaching and we will finally be able to knock off the heating and save some money.
However, the cost of living is still on the rise with fuel and electricity prices skyrocketing across the globe, those savings are likely to be sucked up into other household bills.
Over recent days, energy providers have been hitting customers with the news of price hikes due over the coming months, with some even taking effect immediately.
Households have been warned that they could end up paying around €700 extra a year for their electricity and gas.
The experts at money guide Ireland recently laid out the current cheapest options for households with high to low energy usage.
Very High Electricity Usage
For households with more than five people living there, experts estimate that you could be using as much as 8000 kwh a year.
“Currently, the best switching deal for very high electricity usage homes is from Electric Ireland at €1687 in year one.
"Meanwhile, Bord Gais Energy is next best at €1701 in year one."
High Electricity Usage
Those who still consume a lot of energy - but not quite double the average - usually involve homes with more than four occupants using around 6000 kWh per year.
“Currently, the best switching deal for high electricity usage homes is from Electric Ireland at €1332 in year one.
“Bord Gais Energy is second best. They work out at €1347 in year one.”
Average Electricity Usage
For medium-sized homes using gas, oil, or solid fuel to provide heating and hot water, it would normally require 4200 kWh a year.
“The cheapest deal for average electricity usage is from Electric Ireland at €1012.
“Bord Gais Energy is second best at €1029 in year one.”
Low Electricity Usage
Where there are just one or two people living in a home, 3000 kWh per year should be plenty - as long as you don’t use electricity for heating.
