This Morning's Dr Megan issued a warning to anyone looking to start a diet for the new year.
The health expert warned people starting a 'new year new me' kind of diet should go into the changes with as much information as possible, otherwise it could do more harm than good. She said certain diets such as the 5:2 diet are popular trends to try with those looking to lose weight quickly.
But speaking to ITV show hosts Dermot O'Leary and Josie Gibson, the doctor said these kinds of diets can be damaging in the long run. She often finds when people stop the diets their weight returns - plus more.

The health expert said: "It's really important that people are informed of the pros and cons. Sadly, in three to six months time people come to see me in clinic in floods of tears because they've not only regained the weight that they've worked really hard to lose, but they've also gained extra.
"We see that a lot of these restrictive diets actually do damage to our metabolism. So it can actually leave people worse off in the long run."
