Travel increasingly appears to be organized around experiences, with the destination becoming part of the decision that makes the experience possible. The 2026 ALL Accor Experiential Travel Trends Report found that 25% of respondents would like travel searches to begin with a mood. The report also found that 89% considered live events a meaningful reason to travel. The findings suggest that the activity, emotion, or memory associated with a trip may increasingly influence where travelers choose to go.
That shift can create possibilities for regional communities with fewer conventional tourism assets. Arival's 2026 U.S. Experiences Traveler Outlook, as highlighted by ITIJ, found that three in five respondents considered experiences an important factor in destination choice, rising to 76% among travelers ages 18 to 34. The research offers a useful lens for understanding how a specialized attraction can give a smaller community a reason to enter a traveler's plans.
