Exclusive new editions of 40 iconic albums launched for vinyl week

Sam Fender, Bob Dylan, Gary Numan, Avril Lavingne and The Jam are among the artists taking part in hmv’s Vinyl Week 2023, with exclusive new editions of classic albums available for collectors. The entertainment retailer’s Vinyl Week has seen 40 new records drop in stores.

This year’s drop includes The National’s GRAMMY award winning Sleep Well Beast on crystal clear vinyl. Fresh from his sold-out hometown shows at Newcastle’s St James’ Park, Sam Fender’s debut, Hypersonic Missiles is available on a green vinyl. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Sufjan Stevens Michigan is available on red and for Paul Weller enthusiasts, The Jam’s In The City is up for grabs on white.

A special “Now That’s What I Call hmv Anthemic” compilation of era-defining tracks is also available in this year’s drop featuring The Cure, Oasis, Primal Scream and The Clash amongst others.

For those wanting to bolster their collections even further, the huge range of 3 for £55 Vinyl continues on selected vinyl both in stores and online at hmv.com/store.

Sam Fender - Hypersonic Missiles (link)

Showcasing incredible raw talent, ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ is the Geordie singer-songwriter’s debut album. A blend of indie rock and pop, it’s filled with infectious melodies, honest storytelling and heartfelt lyrics. Following his sell-out gigs at St James’ Park, lucky fans will be able to get their hands on the special-edition green vinyl.

NOW That’s What I Call hmv Anthemic (link)

An exclusive blue vinyl featuring 32 classic anthems and era-defining hits from the past 100 years, including The Cure’s ‘Friday I’m In Love’, ‘The Changingman’ from Paul Weller, hits from Oasis, The Clash, Primal Scream, The Stone Roses and The Cardigans.

Gary Numan - Telekon (link)

The iconic second studio album by the British musician. Following on from the success of his previous album ‘The Pleasure Principle’, Numan built on his distinctive electronic sound and futuristic lyrics in ‘Telekon’. It remains an influential and beloved album and is available on a unique red and black splatter vinyl.

The National - Sleep Well Beast (link)

Available as a crystal-clear vinyl, Sleep Well Beast is the seventh studio album by the indie rock band. The track list includes the iconic ‘The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness', 'Guilty Party', 'Carin at the Liquor Store', 'Day I Die' and 'I'll Still Destroy You'.

The Jam – In the City (link)

The debut studio album by the British mod revival band, originally released in 1977. The album features the band's debut single and title track 'In the City'. In addition, it includes two cover versions, 'Slow Down' and the theme to the 1960s television series, Batman, the latter of which had also been previously covered by The Who, The Kinks and Link Wray.

Bob Dylan – Blonde on Blonde (link)

The timeless seventh studio album by the legendary American singer-songwriter. ‘Blonde on Blonde’ fuses rock, folk and blues and solidified the status of Dylan as a pioneer in music. Available on orange and black marbled vinyl.

Five – Five (link)

The eponymous debut album by the British band that catapulted them into the limelight in 1998. Filled with catchy hooks and energetic dance beats it charted at #1 in the UK Albums Chart upon release. The track list includes hit singles ‘Slam Dunk (Da Funk)’ ‘When the Lights Go Out’ and ‘Everybody Get Up’.

Mariah Carey – Emotions (link)

The vocal powerhouse’s second studio album that cemented her status as a true musical icon. This chart-topping album showcases Mariah’s unparalleled range, leaving listeners truly spellbound by her vocal acrobatics. It includes title track ‘Emotions’ and the soulful ballad ‘Can’t Let Go’. Available on a stunning pink edition vinyl.

Sufjan Stevens – Michigan (link)

The critically acclaimed third album by singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens. It’s part of Sufjan's ambitious plan to create an album for each of the U.S. states, ‘Michigan’ serves as an exploration of the state's landscapes, history, and personal reflections.

Ultravox – Vienna (link)

Vienna is the fourth studio album by the new wave British band. It was the band’s first album with notably their most famous line-up as Midge Ure took over on lead vocals following the departures of Robin Simon and John Foxx.

Rory Gallagher – Live in Europe (link)

A sensational live album that perfectly captures the unrivalled guitar skills of the legendary Rory Gallagher. It was recorded during his 1972 tour and showcases his electrifying sound, with tracks like ‘Messin’ with the Kid’ and ‘Laundromat’.

Christine & The Queens - Chaluer Humaine (link)

The ground-breaking debut album from the French singer, ‘Chaleur Humaine’ is a mesmerizing musical experience. The album seamlessly blends pop and electronic elements and beautifully showcases Christine’s vocals. With chart topping hits like ‘Tilted’ and ‘Saint Claude’ the stunning royal blue vinyl is a must-have for fans.

Blink-182 – Enema of the State (link)

A pop-punk masterpiece that defined a generation from the band that put on an incredible show headlining at this year’s Coachella. Lucky fans are able to get their hands on a limited-edition clear vinyl that features the iconic tracks ‘What’s My Age Again?’ and ‘All the Small Things’.

Cream – Disraeli Gears (link)

Originally released in 1967, Disraeli Gears (orange vinyl) is the iconic second studio album by the British rock band. Showcasing an innovative blend of blues, psychedelia, and hard rock. The album includes the singles 'Strange Brew' and 'Sunshine of Your Love'. Preceding album 'Fresh Cream' (1966) was dominated by Jack Bruce vocals, but Eric Clapton sings lead on two tracks here, shares three with Bruce, and 'Mother's Lament' has vocals from both plus drummer Ginger Baker.

Avril Lavigne – Let Go (link)

The debut album that saw Avril Lavigne explode onto the early 2000s music scene. Tracks include ‘Complicated’ ‘I’m with You’ and ‘Sk8er Boi’, all of which left a lasting impact on the pop music landscape. Available in an exclusive red vinyl.

Michael Kiwanuka – Home Again (link)

The soulful debut album by British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka. Released in 2012, it’s filled with powerful song writing and rich vocals. Produced by Paul Butler, the lead singer of indie rock band The Bees, the album debuted at #4 in the UK Albums Chart and features the singles 'I'm Getting Ready' and 'Home Again'.
