Excitement builds around reopening of popular Arnold pub

People in Arnold are pleased to hear that a pub in the area is reopening. Many people say that they will go in once it’s reopened as it’s “important to support local businesses.”

Although the Eagle's Corner on 91 Front Street is closed, a Facebook post is advertising jobs at the pub. It says no experience is needed as full training will be provided.

With no launch date confirmed, people in Arnold are happy just to hear that the pub will be up and running again. On the official Facebook page for the Eagle's Corner, a picture with the words “Watch This Space” was posted on Thursday June 2.

People in Arnold told Nottinghamshire Live that they think it will get a warm welcome from the community. Cleaner Sharon Marshall, 43, is local to Arnold said: “If there’s one thing about Arnold, it's that people notice things. Whether it be a new shop or a new restaurant if they can, people will try it. I can’t remember even coming in here but once it’s open I will, even if it’s just once.

“When it reopens, the pub should do well. They’ll be people coming up from the High Street and people coming out of Asda and the shops opposite that might fancy a pub lunch or a drink.”

Retiree John Galbraith, 74, from Arnold also looks forward to the reopening of the pub. John mentioned that he had noticed the pub shut for a few weeks.

He said: “I’ll go in once it’s opened, I go to the Wetherspoons most of the time, the prices there can’t compete but the more [pubs] the better. I am happy to see it open, when I go, I’ll have to order a pint of Smooth.”

Full-time mum Annie Jones, 34, from Arnold has been to the Eagle's Corner before. She said: “It’s nice in there, a nice pub for any group of people really, quite big inside too. I’m glad it’s opening back up again. I didn’t know [it was opening back up] I will be going, I think it’s important to support local businesses.

“I can imagine when other people see it’s opened back too, they’ll go in too.”

Student Abby Walker, 26, who lives in Sherwood visits Arnold regularly as her grandmother is local to the area. Abby, who also has a part-time job at a pub in the city centre said: “I think it’s good this coming back. Everybody loves the pub. Arnold has quite a big population of older people who are retired so it’ll be good for them to add another choice to their meeting places.”
