Former Premier League star Curtis Woodhouse has been fined after punching and kicking his cousin outside a pub.
The 43-year-old, who turned his hand at boxing after his football career, was involved in an incident at the Spread Eagle pub in Driffield in Yorkshire. Woodhouse has been fined £8,885 as a result of his actions.
Woodhouse appeared at Hull Magistrates' Court and admitted assault by beating, following the incident which took place on August 20, 2022 with cousin Alexander Woodhouse. The two family members were involved in a disagreement before tempers flared.
Curtis pleaded guilty at the first opportunity which was accepted by prosecutors after he was deemed to have punched and kicked his victim. His fine was £6,500 whilst he was also ordered to pay £300 compensation, a £2,000 surcharge and £85 costs for the attack.
Woodhouse was capped by England's U21s on several occasions with his football career seeing him represent the likes of Sheffield United and Birmingham, winning promotion with the Blues. He retired in 2006, claiming he'd fallen out of love with the sport, only to return months later on a part-time basis.
In the meantime he pursued a career in boxing, which lasted for over a decade. Woodhouse went on to win 24 of his 31 fights, securing 13 victories by way of knockout. During his time in the ring he was both British and English light-welterweight champion. Woodhouse also fought for the WBO inter-continental welterweight title in 2011 but lost to Frankie Gavin.
His last fight came in 2017 in Doncaster, where he beat Lewis van Poetsch on points. Woodhouse previously told the Daily Mail regarding his boxing career: "I was every bit as dedicated to boxing as I was undedicated to football.
"I had no talent. My trainer, Dave Coldwell, will tell you I was one of the five least talented fighters he saw. But I worked my nuts off. In boxing, if you take it easy you get your face smashed. It wasn’t that boxing alone changed me, it was more the fact I had kids and at 26 had p***** away one career."
