Ex-Premier League star Cedric Roussel dies aged just 45 after heart attack

Former Premier League striker Cedric Roussel has died at the age of just 45.

The Belgian striker, who represented Coventry and Wolves while playing in the UK, suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away this Saturday afternoon.

Roussel began his career in his home country of Belgium before joining the Sky Blues on loan from Gent back in 1999. He joined Coventry permanently a year later and spent another season in the Midlands before signing for Wolves.

Coventry City's official Twitter account this Saturday tweeted: "Coventry City are deeply saddened to learn of the death of our former striker Cedric Roussel, at the age of just 45.

"Cedric played 43 games for the Sky Blues from 1999-2001, scoring 11 goals. Our condolences are with his family and friends at this very sad time."

Roussel spent two years on Wolves' books but joined Belgian club Mons on loan in his second season at the Molineux. He then left England for good in 2003, putting pen to paper with Genk.

Wolves' official Twitter account wrote: "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Cedric Roussel. Our former player has passed away aged just 45."

The striker, who also made three appearances for the Belgium national team, went on to represent an additional 11 clubs in a number of countries before finally calling time on his career and hanging up his boots.

The Belgian national team's official Twitter page paid tribute to the striker with a message reading: "We send our condolences to the family and friends of Cedric Roussel."
