Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett believes Bruno Fernandes should have been sent off during Manchester United's draw with Southampton yesterday.
United took the lead against the Saints through Jadon Sancho but were pegged back following the break after a Che Adams strike.
Plenty of the post-match discussion has surrounded United's poor performance and failure to see a game out.
However, in a brief tussle while the ball was out of play the BT Sport cameras picked up Fernandes seemingly swinging a punch towards James Ward-Prowse but failing to connect.
Ex-referee Keith Hackett told the Southern Daily Echo that Fernandes should have received his marching orders.
He said: "It is clear that Fernandes made an attempted strike at his opponent. It is a red card offence, where was the red?
"Where was the VAR? He should have been dismissed."
Stuart Attwell who was in charge at Old Trafford failed to punish Fernandes at the time of the incident while VAR failed to call him back over it.
Manchester United return to action on Tuesday night against Brighton and Hove Albion.
