Ex-Penneys worker reveals the ‘one thing’ customers need to watch out for when shopping in-store

A woman has stunned the internet by revealing some of Penneys’ secrets and has warned customers about the one thing you should avoid doing while shopping in the store.

In a series of short videos on TikTok over recent weeks, Caitlin Sinnett told her followers that she loved the two years she spent working at Penneys, and only left the job to find more hours elsewhere.

Penneys is a staple in most Irish women's, men's, girl's, and boy's wardrobes, with bargains on clothing, accessories, home, and kitchen must-haves. However, like all workplaces, only the employees understand what actually goes on behind the scenes.

Revealing some of the top secrets of the shop, Caitlin said: "Don’t look at the size on the hanger because nine out of 10 times it’s probably wrong because we can’t be arsed to find the hanger that actually matches the size of the clothing or can’t find a black marker to blank it out.

"Or can’t be arsed to turn the hanger around."

She also said that in most cases, when you ask an employee to check the backroom for sizes, they’re probably not going to, admitting: "We’re probably standing through the back for a few minutes.

"Or what I used to do so it looked like I was actually doing something - if I knew for an exact fact that the item wasn’t in stock and the person wasn’t taking no for an answer - I would basically walk up to the stock room, stand there for a few minutes and pretend I’m looking.

"And then walk back down and tell you it wasn’t in stock."

Another tip that many people probably don’t know is that employees in Primark stores across the globe can order things for you and can even call other stores to check on stock, but once again Caitlin admitted while they "can do it, they probably won't offer it.”

For those who depend on the shop assistants to point them in the direction of the item they need, she said there is actually no point because the shop floor is switched around so often and employees don't know where everything is.

She also revealed that "the person working in the beauty section probably knows nothing about beauty. She said, generally they’ve just been asked to work in that section to fill stock, clean, and answer any customer questions - as best they can.

"But it doesn’t mean that they are knowledgeable about the products or a make-up artist if you’re asking them about certain products," Caitlin said.
