Ex-Newcastle United defender John Anderson has urged his former club to 'find a place' for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.
The Magpies had two bids for Maddison turned down in the summer, while Luke Edwards of the Telegraph has reported that a move to St James' Park for the England international in January is 'highly unlikely'.
But Anderson has called on Eddie Howe to continue his pursuit of Maddison whilst his side are in red hot form.
“I think one eye will always be on the January window," Anderson told BBC Radio Newcastle. "Up to the World Cup the season we’ve had has been phenomenal. The togetherness, the players who have come in have hit the ground running.

"Do you want to disrupt that? Or do you strike when the iron is hot? Maddison is a player I would definitely have. He creates chances for others and scores goals. He’s just a good player.
“Where do you put him in the side? In the middle of midfield? On the right? Left? I don’t know where I’d play him at this moment but I would definitely find a place for him.”
Maddison has registered seven goals and four assists in 13 appearances in the Premier League this term, despite Leicester's difficult start to the campaign.
His blistering form earned him a place in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad, although he has been unable to feature thus far due to injury.
