An ex-flight attendant has warned people on holiday to “always” keep their hotel room curtains closed when they head out for the day. Miguel Muñoz said it was an important way to stay safe when travelling abroad.
Speaking to the Express, he said holidaymakers should “always keep the curtains closed” in order to protect themselves and their belongings. Miguel insisted that this would help to deter thieves.
“Have you ever noticed when you first walk into your hotel room that the curtains are open?” he asked. “That’s a tell tale sign that the room is empty.” Therefore, if you keep the curtains shut, anyone thinking of entering the room is likely to assume there is already someone in there and may decide not to target it".

Cabin crew are used to staying in hotel rooms abroad as part of their job and Miguel isn't the only one to share his travel tips. American flight attendant Cici regularly posts on TikTok with her own advice for holidaymakers.
She recently warned people to attach a small towel to the safety latch on a hotel door in order to make it harder for a would-be intruder to get in. She also said she always travels with a “personal safety alarm”, which makes a loud noise and has a bright flashing light to deter attackers.
Another airline staff member recently caused a stir with an unusual travel tip. Esther, who works for Dutch airline KLM, said she always leaves a shoe in her room's safe to stop herself from forgetting valuables.
Posting on TikTok, she also said she used a clothes hanger to clip hotel curtains together at night, to avoid being woken up by the bright light in the morning. And she advised using shower caps to cover shoes that you put in your luggage when you travel home, to stop the rest of your items getting dirty.
