According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers have signed former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Frank Darby to a one-year contract. Darby, 26, was selected by Atlanta in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft out of Arizona State.
Darby managed to stick around for all three years under former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith, appearing in 16 career games. While mostly playing on special teams, Darby recorded just two catches for 29 receiving yards in Atlanta.

Darby spent a good chunk of his time on the Falcons practice squad but perhaps would have been more effective playing with a better quarterback over the last few seasons. Luckily, he now joins quarterback guru Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco.
The 49ers have an established QB in Brock Purdy and are currently at a standoff with breakout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Darby will have a chance to impress during training camp and potentially make the team’s 53-man roster.
The Falcons signed a few offensive linemen this week, including veteran Julién Davenport. Check out Atlanta’s updated 90-man training camp roster HERE!
