We are team Sonic AND Shadow in this household, and I will not hear otherwise. Shadow’s the yin to Sonic’s yang, as every good guy needs a misunderstood bad guy to go up against. How else would Sonic be able to prove himself??
That’s why I was so excited when I spotted Shadow at the end credits of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He’s set to have a starring role in the upcoming theatrical release of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 which is in cinemas from Boxing Day — here’s everything you need to know about him.

When did Shadow the Hedgehog first appear?
We were first introduced to the black and red hedgehog in the 2001 Sega game Sonic Adventure 2. You could play as Shadow, Sonic’s formidable yet smart-mouthed arch-nemesis. 23 years later, Shadow (and his iconic motorbike, The Black Rider) is starring in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Who did we meet in the previous Sonic The Hedgehog movies?
In Sonic the Hedgehog, we are introduced to Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz), a hedgehog with mysterious powers. We follow Sonic as he tries to escape from the evil (but funny) scientist named Dr Eggman, who is played by everyone’s childhood fave Jim Carrey. (I’d be evil, too, if my last name could be cracked into eggcellent puns.)
The next film is where we meet the rest of the Team Sonic crew, based on the video games. We have Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), of course, Sonic’s trusty sidekick with, you guessed it, two tails. Then, we are introduced to Knuckles (Idris Elba), whose design is based on our Aussie echidna — naw.
How does Shadow fit into Sonic the Hedgehog 3?
Keanu Reeves will voice Shadow, and we see his iconic lightning powers in the trailer. Even though Shadow is a villain, he plays the family-friendly version in the film. That means you can still bring your younger siblings and cousins to watch him this Boxing Day (while you get to enjoy the nostalgia at the same time.)
