Fans of beloved Welsh comedy series The Tuckers say the BBC has "made a mistake" in axing the brilliant series. The programme, which began in 2020 and ran for three series, followed the close-knit Tucker family through the trials and tribulations of everyday life running a catering business - and had viewers in hysterics every episode.
The Tuckers was filmed in the Aber Valley above Caerphilly and starred Steve Speirs and Lynn Hunter as Glyn and Peggy Tucker respectively. Earlier on Thursday, May 4, the BBC confirmed the series was finishing to make way for a "brand-new comedy series".
A statement from the network said: "We'd like to thank the series' creator, writer and actor Steve Speirs for bringing the Tuckers to life as well as the incredible all-Welsh cast who brought the close-knit family of loveable rogues to our screens. After three series we bid the characters farewell and look forward to announcing some brand-new comedy series soon."
Show creator and star Steve Speirs issued a statement on social media following the announcement. "For all those asking about the next series of TUCKERS…Sadly, Its not been recommissioned. To everyone who followed the lives of Peggy, Billy,Bobby, Nats, Shaks, Lush, Clock , Dawn and Melvyn… THANK YOU. ( I'm sure Glyn and Murphy are still arguing down that bog as I type)xx"

"Big mistake once again BBC, it was a fabulous series. Glyn, Peggy and the rest of the Tuckers were so funny and that's what we need," said fan Christine McSweeney. "Typical of the BBC to get rid of something good!" agreed viewer Sue Roper. "My husband and I love the Tuckers!" whilst viewer Alyson Ryan said: "Oh no!!! I loved the Tuckers. Very disappointed BBC."
"What a shame, I thought it was fabulous!" agreed Gill Gelder. "Gutted, I love this - best bit of fun on there!" added Linda Gibb.
Calling for more Welsh-made comedy, Andrew EJ commented: "Loved the Tuckers. We need to see more comedy made in Wales including a return of Gavin & Stacey and Stella!" while Paul Williams questioned the BBC's decision and said: "Honestly, who in their right mind cancels a brilliant comedy sitcom?"
"Typical! Our very own home-grown comedy and they axe it," added Martin Henry Harris. "Very short-sighted. Nothing comes close to British comedy!"
"Was a brilliant programme!!! Such a shame!" added Amanda Jane. "Brilliant show, brilliant cast. John Weldon and all involved, you will be missed!" added Julie T.
Calling for the BBC to retract their decision to axe the programme, Catherine Edwards commented: "What!!!! I hope they make a U- turn on that one as best Welsh comedy out there! Brilliant and family-friendly too, my son even wanted to go see where the real house is so we went to find it!!! Bring back the Tuckers!!"
"People saying it wasn't reflective of Welsh life, those who know will say they know people like every character and the Welsh are the best at laughing at ourselves!" said Stuart Spragg. "Awesome comedy written by the great Steve Spiers let's hope he has something else in the pipeline or Netflix picks it up instead!"
"A great pity, I enjoyed every episode. Many thanks Mr Speirs," added Jim Bevan. "You are a truly gifted man and I wish you every success in the future."
The Tuckers series 1-3 is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
