Every Wetherspoons in Glasgow ranked from worst to best according to TripAdvisor

Wherever you are in the UK, you're unlikely to be too far from the nearest Wetherspoons.

Glasgow in particular is spoilt for choice, with eight pubs in the city — not to mention a further five in the surrounding areas.

Wetherspoons is well-regarded for its low prices and reliability, with the food and drink on offer being broadly similar across all branches.

That doesn't mean all Spoons are created equal, though, and some are certainly held in higher regard than others.

To investigate which of Glasgow's pubs were the most popular, we took a look at TripAdvisor, where each one has been assigned a rating out of five and a ranking compared to all of the 'quick bite' spots in the city.

According to the online travel company, here are all of the Glasgow Wetherspoons ranked from worst to best.

The Esquire House, 1487 Great Western Road

Ranked 144 of 256 Quick Bites in Glasgow

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 154

Coming in at the bottom of the list, the reviews for The Esquire House are not as disastrous as you may think — with some visitors even praising the pub's spacious size — but there are a few one-star slammers.

What one customer said: "Had a big breakfast absolutely shocking! It was cold and arrived in two parts as they hadn’t put bacon on one plate and no eggs on the other! By the time they did arrive we had completed our breakfast and the eggs were cold and totally inedible! This was my first and last visit!"

Sir John Stirling Maxwell, 140 Kilmarnock Rd

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 70

Sir John Stirling Maxwell does not have a ranking on TripAdvisor for sone reason, and so it would not be fair to place it at the very bottom of this list. However, with the same rating as most of the other venues here, and with far less reviews, second-to-last seems like an appropriate spot.

What one customer said: "The attitude of the staff at this pub is disgusting. No bell was rung and no warning was given before last orders, so when I was refused service at the bar for ordering too late, I challenged the man behind the bar for not giving prior notice. He aggressively shouted that he would boot me out if I challenged him, even though I was well within my rights to do so. The attitude of the manager who came out to talk to us later was abrupt and unsympathetic. I don't recommend this Wetherspoons to anyone, the staff require lots of customer service training."

An Ruadh Ghleann, 40-44 Main Street Rutherglen

Ranked 83 of 256 Quick Bites in Glasgow

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 159

Coming in at third from the bottom, An Ruadh Ghleann has a broad range of ratings on TripAdvisor. While there are a good amount of five-star reviews, it is the numerous one and two-star write-ups that have earned it this position on the list.

What one customer said: "This is a few times i have been in now and the food quality has just dropped i don’t know what has happened as i have always enjoyed my visits which where regular but i am afraid now i wont be back. Today i ordered a cheese and tomato panini and the there was just no cheese i cant understand how someone could send out such a sorry excuse for a cheese panini it was actually so poor looking it was funny."

The Counting House, 2 St. Vincent Place

The Counting House was praised for its decor (JD Wetherspoon)

Ranked 68 of 256 Quick Bites in Glasgow

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 1,567

What visitors at The Counting House praised the most was its food, with one review going so far as to call the chef "an absolute genius". Others were fans of the interior decor, which some claimed was akin to that at a top end hotel.

What one customer said: "Visited for breakfast and we both chose the eggs Benedict which was amazing. The eggs Benedict we have sampled all over the world and on many cruise ships but the ones on offer in Wetherspoons no one can touch absolutely amazing."

The Crystal Palace, 36 Jamaica Street

Ranked 60 of 256 Quick Bites in Glasgow

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 518

The staff seem to be the standout feature at The Crystal Palace, with numerous reviews giving the "fast service" a shoutout. The food earned less positive feedback, with one visitor going so far as to call it "absolutely shocking".

What one customer said: "Spacious Wetherspoons in a good location for Glasgow Central station and St Enoch's shopping centre and Subway. I visited three times during early evenings and there was always seating available. Food was good although I did twice have to ask for a pot of sauce that was supposed to come with the meal to actually be supplied, a minor detail. Service at the bar was always prompt and efficient."

The Hengler's Circus, 351-363 Sauchiehall Street

Ranked 35 of 256 Quick Bites in Glasgow

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 422

The Hengler's Circus was commended for its food and customer service by most reviewers — with particular praise going to the staff "who go above and beyond — but some weren't so keen on the security guards outside.

What one customer said: "Popped in for brunch while in town. No bother getting a table at about 10.20 on a Saturday morning, very civilised clientele at that time - tourist families, couples, single blokes etc. Good selection of breakfast options, easy to order via the app. Food and tea was served pretty quickly, staff friendly. Decent enough scran, better than I remember from Wetherspoons. Altogether a painless experience."

The Sir John Moore, 260-292 Argyle Street

Ranked 28 of 256 Quick Bites in Glasgow

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 566

The Sir John Moore seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it venue, with some praising it to high heavens and others calling it the "worst Spoons [they] had ever visited". Visitors seemed particularly divided over the quality of food and customer service.

What one customer said: "A nice relaxing Wetherspoons pub. With an outdoor area on Argyle Street. Like most Wetherspoons some very nice features and nooks and crannies. It's a fair size, do can get very busy at times. If you have the app it's not an issue! Staff friendly, helpful and a clean safe location."

The Society Room, 151 West George Street

Ranked 27 of 256 Quick Bites in Glasgow

Rating: 4/5

Number of reviews: 318

The only Wetherspoons on this list to score a 4/5 rating, The Society Room has received a number of rave reviews on TripAdvisor. Whilst many of course praised the excellent value for money — it's a Spoons after all — the customer service and the quality of the cocktails.

What one customer said: "When you go to a Wetherspoons you know what you are getting. Cheap decent drinks and cheap food which is normally quite good for what you pay. We visited here when in Glasgow for a couple of breakfasts which were spot on and also had a few drinks each day. No complaints and would recommend going here."
