Newcastle United will reportedly push forward with a loan-move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge after it emerged Jonjo Shelvey will join Nottingham Forest.
Shelvey has signed a two and a half year deal with Forest and follows in the footsteps of striker Chris Wood, who also joined Steve Cooper's side earlier this month on loan.
The decision to let Shelvey, who had six months left on his Toon deal, go leaves Newcastle slightly light in the centre of midfield.

While true they have coped for almost all of this season so far without the injured Shelvey, the reality is that Magpies boss Eddie Howe did not want to lose him in January.
In his pre-match Carabao Cup presser ahead of the Tuesday night clash with Southampton, Howe said: "From a footballing perspective, I definitely want to keep Jonjo, I rate him highly but then there's his situation to think about."
The decision to let Shelvey go has seen Newcastle turn their attention to Berge, who is also a target for Fulham.
Newcastle made their only permanent addition of the window so far last weekend when they announced the signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton in a £45m deal.
