Everton vs Manchester United LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

Everton vs Manchester United LIVE

Ainsley Maitland-Niles had the final say of a breathless second half as Everton maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign with a draw against Man United. The Toffees trailed with just seconds remaining on the clock before the transfer Deadline Day signing equalised with an early goal of the season contender.

The result will feel like two points dropped for United as twice they lead at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock right at the start of the second half with an impressive solo effort, but Tyrique George equalised with a powerful in the 83rd minute.

Benjamin Sesko thought he had earned Man Utd a second successive win away at Everton when his header from a Luke Shaw cross squirmed over the line despite the best efforts of Jordan Pickford. However, Maitland-Niles - on for the injured James Garner - with the last kick of the game rifled home from distance to snatch a dramatic late point and spark bedlam. Follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis.

Everton leave it late

16:26 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a dream stoppage-time equaliser on his Everton debut to earn a 2-2 draw against Manchester United and lift the mood at the end of a difficult week.

Deadline day ended in disappointment for fans of both clubs but the Toffees’ inaction was particularly concerning given Tuesday’s botched business left them with a threadbare squad and an unhappy manager.

David Moyes admitted he had “to live with disappointments” and called for Everton players to “muck in”, but Sunday looked set to end in further frustration after substitute Benjamin Sesko’s 88th-minute header put United on course for a late victory.

Tyrique George’s thunderous strike had cancelled out a fine Bryan Mbeumo effort moments earlier but the Slovenia international would not prove United’s match-winning substitute for the second time at Hill Dickinson Stadium this year.

Instead, deadline-day acquisition Maitland-Niles came off the bench to rifle home from distance to snatch a dramatic late point and spark bedlam.

Why the first international break of 2026-27 season has been moved

13:53 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The first international break of the season has been moved, leading to a major change in the fixture schedule.

In recent years, FIFA has used five primary international breaks during a season, in March, June, September, October and November.

However, instead of separate breaks in September and October, there will now be a three-week gap for international fixtures across late September and early October, when countries will play four international matches instead of two.

Man Utd transfer window graded

13:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Another transfer window has come and gone, and once again Manchester United fans will be left with a lingering sense of disappointment.

After a turbulent 2025/26 campaign, bookended by the departure of Casemiro, it was clear the Red Devils would need to invest this summer.

From the off, it seemed that was what they would do, but a proactive July was followed by a drifting August and aimless Deadline Day. All told, four new faces - three midfielders - have come through the door.

United will make their long-awaited return to the Champions League in a week, and some key questions surrounding the depth and quality of the squad have gone unanswered this summer.

Here is Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez speaking to Sky Sports:

"We did not show the best of us in the first game [at Hull], then against Ipswich we played much better as a team and this is the standard we have to keep.

"We have to be as compact as possible, sometimes being high in the pitch will help our midfielders and defensive players, so it is important to be compact as a team, winning the duels and being focussed and alert the whole game will help a lot."

Michael Carrick on facing Everton

12:35 , Alex Young

“To be honest, however long I’ve been going to Everton – and I know it was Goodison [Park] before – every single game has been as tough as they come,.

“We’ve had some good results, we’ve had some not-so-good results and last year epitomises kind of how hard it was and how much we had to give to get the result.

“Whatever position they’re in, wherever they are in the league, historically whenever I’ve gone there it’s been tough, whatever state they’re in.

“David’s a terrific manager. They’ve got a good squad, they’ve got some talent in that group and some very, very good attacking players as well, so we’re expecting as tough a game as it gets when we go there and we’ll prepare for that.”

Michael Carrick on Kobbie Mainoo's growth

12:27 , Alex Young

Michael Carrick loves the way Kobbie Mainoo is developing and expects Manchester United’s renewed midfield competition to help take him to new heights.

The midfielder did not play a minute for England at the World Cup, but he has parked any frustration and embraced new competition, shining in last weekend’s 5-2 win over Ipswich having seen Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans arrive.

“Obviously Kobbie made big strides last season from finishing the season so strong and played ever so well last week again," Carrick told reporters.

“You can see in him his development and how much he’s improving certain aspects of his game. He wants to learn, is hungry to learn, wants more all the time, which is great.

“Because he has had a really good eight months since I’ve been in, and it would be easy for him to think ‘this is all right, you know, I’ve got in the team, played a lot of games, and everything’s good’. But he’s pushing for more, as he should."

He added: “Kobbie can have another big season, for sure. He’s come back great – really has come back great – and you see that on the weekend.

“But in and around the group, in and around training, you can see him growing, his personality, he’s obviously maturing all the time as well, and he’s still so young. There’s loads to still come from him, which is great.”

David Moyes reacts to transfer window failures

12:15 , Alex Young

David Moyes is looking for his Everton players to “muck in” and cover for the shortages in his squad after a frustrating end to the transfer window.

Moyes has only 18 outfield players in his squad after a deadline day move for Folarin Balogun collapsed to cap a summer window in which Everton saw some key figures leave with not enough done to replace them.

There are shortages in attack and at full-back which could see players asked to play in unfamiliar roles, but Moyes wants players to see it as an opportunity.

“They’re all going to have to be able to muck in,” Moyes said ahead of Sunday’s match against Manchester United.

“We’ve got a really small squad now. Sometimes it gives people opportunities who maybe haven’t had them.

“When you get those opportunities in football, sometimes you need to be given the chance to show what you can do.

“So let’s see if some of them can do that. But let’s be fair, they showed last year, getting so close, being where they were as a team, so I’ve got no concerns about that really. I’m sure they’ll be fully at it.”

Score prediction

12:05 , Alex Young

Everton may be unbeaten after two games, but it is Manchester United with the momentum this afternoon.

The visitors will be buoyed by their emphatic victory over Ipswich last weekend and their attacking superiority could prove decisive today.

Everton will put up a fight, though, and carry their own attacking threat against a Man Utd which is not impressed in the opening two games.

Man Utd to win, 3-1.

Predicted XIs

11:58 , Alex Young

Everton predicted XI: Pickford; O'Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Garner, Armstrong; Johnson, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Barry

Man Utd predicted XI: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Santos, Mount; Rashford, Fernandes, Mbeumo; Cunha

Early Man Utd team news

11:50 , Alex Young

Mason Mount is back in contention for Manchester United, after recovering from a knock suffered in a friendly against Paris Saint-Germain in early August.

The midfielder has missed almost a month, but Michael Carrick confirmed last week: “Mase (Mount) is back around the group, which was great. Trained this week, so that’s a big positive for us.”

Mount could partner summer signing Andrey Santos, with Youri Tielemans potentially dropping to the bench. Carlos Baleba remains out with an ankle injury, while Benjamin Sesko returned from a shin problem against Ipswich.

Carrick is unlikely to alter his winning side, with Matheus Cunha supported by Marcus Rashford, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes. Amad Diallo is unavailable, while Senne Lammens should continue behind Dalot, Martinez, Maguire and Shaw.

Early Everton team news

11:42 , Alex Young

Everton could hand Jack Grealish an immediate return to the starting XI after his Deadline Day loan move from Manchester City.

Former Arsenal defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also expected to be involved following his arrival on the same day, although Christian Norgaard remains a doubt with an unspecified injury.

Iliman Ndiaye's £60m move to Manchester City has left Everton short on the right, potentially opening the door for Brennan Johnson to feature.

Up front, Thierno Barry faces little competition following Beto's move to Fiorentina and the collapse of Folarin Balogun's proposed transfer.
