All the talk heading into Saturday’s game was about us supporters getting behind the boys and making Goodison Park as hostile as we could.
It was all about less moaning and groaning and more about cheering the lads on and trying to push them to give that little bit extra.
But in the back of many minds heading to Goodison was a fear that Leeds United could come and do a number on us.
I think most will have watched them on Wednesday and been a bit fearful of the way they played against Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa at Villa Park.
They were fast, well-organised and played with a lot of high-energy. In many ways that is exactly the type of opposition that you don’t want playing against Everton.
But credit to the players, straight from the off they were at it. Not only were the supporters up for it, but the players were too.
We managed to get an early goal and then in my opinion did to Leeds what they did to a lot of teams last year.

Thanks to our work rate and intensity we forced Leeds into making a number of mistakes from the off, and I think they were shocked by the way we played.
We smelt blood and the longer the game went on the more you could see the confidence in the players growing. It was exactly the type of performance that fans have been hoping to see for a long time.
And I think in return the players thrived off the energy and the passion that the supporters showed in the stands.
I know as a former player myself that it can be difficult to keep the tempo high and play the way we did in the opening 20 minutes for a full game.
But to be fair to the players, who have rightly come in for stick this season, they were superb from minute one until the very end.
And while there were plenty of impressive performances on the pitch, my man of the match would have to go to the supporters for the atmosphere they created.
I think if we can make Goodison Park as hostile as it was on Saturday for the rest of the season then there are not many teams who will roll us over.
Yes, we have some difficult games to come, but if the fans carry on lifting the roof the way they did, then that is going to shock a lot of opposition teams coming to Goodison Park.
Like we saw first hand on Saturday, a real fortress atmosphere inside Goodison can make a massive difference.
*RATE THE EVERTON PLAYERS FOR THE WIN OVER LEEDS:
Kenny deserves huge praise for Leeds performance
I thought Jonjoe Kenny was excellent on Saturday as people don’t realise how hard it is to play left-back when you are a right-back and vice versa.
I played right-back once myself and I still haven’t got over it to this day. It was against Arsenal at Highbury and I was up against Marc Overmars.
To put it simply, I didn’t know what I was doing and struggled straight from the off, so I know how difficult it is to have to switch sides.
But fair play to the kid, he was excellent and you could see he was right up for it from the start of the game.
Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Raphinha went off but I think that was because Jonjoe wasn’t giving him a sniff.
We all know how good Raphinha is, but Jonjoe got right on him from the start and made sure he wasn’t given the time and space he likes.
It is difficult when you are in and out of the side because all players like consistency and they like to play as often as they can in a bid to get some momentum going.
But when you are a squad player and you get asked to come in and do a job then drop out again, it is so hard to get that momentum that helps your performances.
But Saturday’s performance should give Jonjoe Kenny a lot of confidence because he showed he can do a very tough job when required.
