Everton Fan Advisory Board releases statement after no club board members attend quarterly meeting

The Everton Fan Advisory Board has confirmed that no members of the club’s board attended their quarterly meeting on Wednesday night.

The group, which is officially sanctioned by the Goodison Park club for in-depth consultation on issues with its hierarchy, says it was "informed at very short notice" that there would be no members of the club's senior hiercahy in attendance for the latest gathering. The meeting came just days after Everton secured their Premier League status for next season with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

"Last night we met with officials from EFC for a scheduled quarterly meeting," a statement from the FAB released on Thursday morning read.

"We were informed at very short notice that there would be no Board representatives attending the meeting - contrary to the requirements of the Memorandum of Understanding we have in place with EFC.

"We thank those Club officials that did attend and who engaged in constructive discussion/consultation on matters that are important to Evertonians."

The FAB, which earlier this year met with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and the club’s director of football Kevin Thelwell, also revealed that it spoke about Everton’s transition to their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, governance, investment, fan engagement and embracing the heritage of the club during the meeting.

As reported by the Liverpool ECHO last week, majority shareholder Moshiri has signed an exclusivity agreement with American company MSP Sports Capital as he seeks investment to complete funding for the club’s new stadium.

Moshiri has been in talks with MSP since January, when its Iranian-American chairman, Jahm Najafi, and CEO, Jeff Moorad, attended Everton’s home game with Southampton. Miami-based 777 had been in talks with Moshiri in recent weeks over an investment deal, potentially acquiring a controlling interest in the club, but, as reported by the ECHO last week, the US company has now moved away from the club.

Reacting to the talk around fresh investment, the FAB has urged any prospective investors or future leaders to prioritise engaging with and understanding the views of Evertonians as they believe that is something the current board has decided not to do this year.

"As speculation builds about investment/ownership/strengthened leadership at EFC, we also urge any prospective investors/future leaders to prioritise engaging with and understanding the views of Evertonians - something the current board has decided not to do this year," the FAB said.

"We’ll continue working with the club, providing input into important and future decisions while also raising strategic matters as they emerge. A summary of the meeting will be published over the coming days."
